When Survival No Longer Fits: The Beginning of Rising

Growth rarely announces itself with confidence.
More often, it begins with discomfort.
The habits, beliefs, and coping strategies that once protected us begin to feel restrictive. The mask we've worn for years no longer fits. Pretending becomes exhausting. Staying silent becomes suffocating.
This can be confusing. Many people assume something is wrong when old coping mechanisms stop working.
Often, the opposite is true.
Sometimes this is a sign that healing has begun.
The strategies that once helped us survive difficult experiences were not failures—they were adaptations. They served a purpose during challenging seasons.
But healing invites us to ask an important question:
What helped me survive then, and what will help me thrive now?
As we grow, we begin releasing patterns that no longer reflect who we are becoming. We learn healthier ways to cope, build stronger boundaries, express our emotions, and reconnect with our authentic selves.
Growth doesn't erase your past.
It honours it while creating space for your future.
As I write in She Rises and She Glows: Embracing the Woman You Were Meant to Be:
"Sometimes the first sign that your rising is coming is when the coping mechanisms that once kept you safe stop working. The mask no longer fits. The pretending becomes painful. The silence becomes suffocating. The version of you that helped you survive now feels like a prison you've outgrown."
If this resonates with you, perhaps you're not falling apart.
Perhaps you're becoming.
At Southern Sky Wellness Center, we believe healing is not about becoming someone else. It's about gently rediscovering the person beneath the survival strategies—the person who has always been worthy of healing, hope, and wholeness.
You don't have to remain the version of yourself that simply survived.
You can grow into the person you were meant to become. 🌿
